We used different shapes to dip in paint and stamp a colorful collage. We had a lot of fun labeling colors and shapes.
We read Shape Mouse and then made our own shape mouse. We worked on shape recognition and following directions.
Shape by Shape
We read Shape by Shape and saw how all different kinds of shapes, when put together, can make a dinosaur. In speech group, we made dinosaur mouths. At table time, we made a picture of a silly friend. We labeled and counted eyes, nose, mouth, ears, neck, head, and heart. We also explored what shapes we can use to make facial features.
Leaves are falling
For the first part of our unit on Autumn, we focused on leaves changing colors and falling to the ground. We painted leaves in fall colors. We made a banner of leaves that are orange, red, and yellow. Some are on the tree; some are on the ground.
Pumpkin Farm Jack-o-lanterns
The pumpkin farm was a great trip. We had so much fun riding on the hayride, petting the animals, and picking out a pumpkin. We made pumpkin farm jack-o-lanterns. It worked on scissor skills, gluing skills, and locating and placing facial features. They did a great job.
The four seasons
We had a fantastic unit on the four seasons. We made a book learning about the seasons of a tree. OT furthered that learning with a great sensory activity.
Creepy Crawly Bugs
We read books by Eric Carle about different bugs, including The Very Busy Spider and The Very Clumsy Click Beetle. We made beetles and counted the legs and marble painted the wings.
Old MacDonald's Farm
We learned about farms and the animals that live on the farm. We practiced identifying the animals and knowing what sound they make. We made a cow and followed 2 step directions.
We read The Mitten and Snowmen at Night. We made a mitten and put all of the animals inside of it. We also made a snow man in a snow shower. We focused on following 2 step directions. In speech, we made penguins.
In Occupational Therapy group, we made shaggy dogs by gluing yarn to an outline. It was a great sensory and fine motor skill.
We spent the week learning nursery rhymes. Our favorite is creative version of Hickory Dickory Dock. We made a project based on this video.
Our 5 senses
This week we learned about our five senses. We learned that we have eyes to see, ears to hear, a nose to smell, a mouth to taste, and hands to feel. We made a self portrait and a chart labeling our five senses on our portrait.
This week we learned about letter and that they have meaning. We worked on letter recognition and sent home a sheet to practice letter identification. We made a project with the first letter of our name and practiced tracing our name.
This week we read The Cat in the Hat. We practiced writing our names with rubber stamps and looked for words in the text. We made a chart of the words we used in the book on Cat's hat.
